No, Ahava is NOT cruelty-free.

When required by law, such as those in China, Ahava is among the brands that test on animals.

For a company to be cruelty-free or vegan, it must be completely free from animal testing or ingredients. That means no use of ingredients that are derived from animals such as their oil, etc.

One thing is that Ahava actually claims their products are free from chemicals like petrolatum, parabens, and SLS, and instead the ingredients are vegan.

However, that doesn’t automatically that Ahava is cruelty-free. That’s not how it’s done.

The first stage is that a brand cannot use animal-derived ingredients as I mentioned above.

In the second stage, the brand must not sell its products in China where it’s required to test on animals before a product is sold there.

Even though the brand isn’t doing the testing directly, it is indirectly financing it. For that reason, it’s not categorized as a cruelty-free brand.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other cruelty-free brands you can choose from such as QV, Alberto Balsam, Ardell, and others that don’t test on animals.

If a brand decides to not sell in China due to this reason, then it is taking a step toward being cruelty-free.

The other thing that remains is for such companies to stop using animals derived ingredients in their products.

Once that is done, then such a company becomes 100% cruelty-free. Until Ahava fulfills these conditions, it cannot be termed a cruelty-free brand.
