Kevin Murphy vs Kerastase Shampoos: Reviews and Comparison

Sharing is caring!

When your hair starts breaking away or losing its luster and shine, you can’t sit down and pray for a solution. You have to take action.

And while there are dozens of treatments available to you, you want the one that’s quickest and of moderate cost.

Getting a shampoo is an efficient, yet cost-effective way of treating your hair problems. Fortunately, there are lots of good brands out there to choose from.

But you have to be careful, not all brands are worth investing in. Especially if you don’t know much about the brand.

However, if you already know the brand but just can’t decide if it’s the one for you or not, then this article is for you.

Both Kevin Murphy and Kerastase have been around for quite some time. But, from the look of things, Kerastase is more popular and especially trusted among hairstylists and haircare specialists.

This doesn’t mean KM isn’t good too but the reviews on them are sparse, unlike Kerastase.

So, to clear the air and see which brand may be suitable for you, I’m going to compare the Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash Shampoo and the Kerastase Nutri Bain Satin 1 Shampoo.

Let’s get started.

Kevin Murphy vs Kerastase Shampoo Reviews

Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash: Detox Shampoo

The Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash is a detox shampoo that is designed for removing the unwanted build-up of chemicals from the hair.

If you use a lot of product on your hair, there is a big chance you’re leaving a lot of chemicals in there. Not only can it make your hair dull but can also dry out your scalp.

Fortunately, this detox shampoo is free from paraben and sulfate and full of essential oil that can purify your hair and refresh your scalp. Also, if your scalp is flaky, it contains a natural antiseptic that’ll wash off dead skin.

This will leave your hair healthy and moisturized and your scalp brightened.

It’s not just for deep cleansing though. You can use it as a pre-color treatment shampoo. It shouldn’t pull out the color or strip essential oil from the hair. If you have a dull scalp too, it can help stimulate it.

It contains lots of ingredients. While a lot of these are beneficial, it’s not always the best, especially if you have sensitive hair.

In addition, the ingredients are anti-pollutant and cruelty-free, so it’s a valid option for vegans. Among the ingredient also is AHAS, which helps to moisturize, condition, strengthen, and mitigate against the risk of hair breakage.

Most users noted that they didn’t see a surge in hair loss when using it.

The shampoo is most ideal for oily hair types, but it is scented. So, if you’re allergic to that, this might not be for you.

It’s important to note that this product shouldn’t be used daily as it may be too drying. Once or twice a week is okay. Ideally, you should be using it when you have a lot of buildups. Remember, it isn’t really a shampoo but more of a cleanser.

Verdict

Finally, the Kevin Murphy Maxi Wash doesn’t contain ethanol (alcohol) or sulfates. Some users complaint that they got their products without a seal.

This is as a result of buying from unreputable sources. So, I’m recommending that you be careful about where you’re buying so you don’t end up with a fake.

Kerastase Nutri Bain Satin 1 Shampoo

The Kerastase Nutritive Irisome Bain is formulated for cleaning and nourishing dry hair.

It is enriched with Iris Rhizome Extra, derived from Iris plant to deliver antioxidant and protective action on the hair.

Used overnight, the formula can alleviate damaged hair and provide continuous protection.

It also feature glucid and lipids, which helps strengthen the hair and increase shine respecitvely. It is designed for dry hair and never tested on animals.

If you have buildup or residue in your hair, this shampoo should equally be effective.

The shampoo has an accompanying conditioner, which can be purchased together. But you can use it alone if you’re only after removing buildup and dirt from your hair.

The conditioner is just to moisturize your hair and keep it safe from drying out after using the shampoo. But if you’re on a tight budget, you can go with only the shampoo.

Downsides:

The downside is that it’s one of the most expensive shampoo out there. If you’re already doubting if it’ll work for your hair or if you’re only managing to pay this much, you may want to look for another.

There are a lots of other cheaper shampoos out there and we’ve reviewed a ton on the site. Also, the shampoo does have a scent.

You may or may not like the fragrance in it but if you’re very sensitive, it might be too strong for you.

But then, there aren’t a lot of shampoos without some kind of scent, even if it’s little.

One other thing I don’t like about the ingredient is that it contains sulfate and there just seem to be too much in the formula.

A few customers do complain about the ingredient being too much and/or drying out their hair.

Kevin Murphy vs Kerastase Shampoo Comparison

The two shampoos are suitable for colored hair. Both cleanse the hair but the Kerastase does more: it helps nourish the hair. While Kevin Murphy doesn’t is sulfate-free, Kerastase isn’t.

Although both are scented, they are designed for different hair types. If you have oily hair, Kevin Murphy is ideal for you. However, if your hair is normal or slightly dry, you may be better off with Kerastase.

Their pricing should be similar. However, you can check different online retailers for the best deal.
