Lancôme vs Shiseido: Which Is Better?

Sharing is caring!

When your skin needs a fix, you need a quality product from a reputable brand.

Although there are more companies than you can even imagine, many of them may not be suitable for you. You have to consider your budget, your skin type, what you like and dislike and so many other things.

That isn’t to say finding a brand for your needs is impossible. Far from that. There are lots of reputable brands you’ll definitely like. Two of these brands are Lancome and Shiseido.

The fact that you’re reading this means you are already family with both and just confused about which one to go for.

In this article, I’ll like to introduce you to the Advanced Genifique Serum and Ultimune Power Infusing Serum, both from Lancome and Shiseido respectively.

These two serums are very popular and have quite a few similarities.

However, I’ll only cover some of the differences between them so it’s easy to decide which is better.

Then you can use the knowledge to pick one of the two or similar products from each brand. While those other products may be different, it’s important to note that most brands use very similar ingredients in their skincare products.

Without further ado, let’s proceed:

Lancôme vs Shiseido: Brand History

Here is a short guide on Shiseido

Although Shiseido has been in the industry for close to 100 years, the general review on the brand isn’t very encouraging. Most people don’t leave a positive review on the brand, which is to say that the brand isn’t all that good.

One of the reasons I’d think about that is because their serums, and products in general, are very expensive. So, most people buy them with very high expectations and then get disappointed after trying the product a few times.

Shiseido Is Not Cruelty-free

No, Shiseido is not a cruelty-free brand.

This means that the brand employs some animal ingredients in their product manufacturing process or finance animal testing where third party test ingredients on animal and cause bad injuries to them. This is another area where Shiseido and Lancome are similar.

Like Shiseido, Lancome is also not vegan or cruelty-free. So, anyone looking for a cruelty-free or vegan brand will have to look elsewhere.

Here is a short guide on Lancôme

Inspired by the French’s gracefulness, Lancome offers beauty products that range from cosmetics, fragrances, and skincare. Lancome’s skincare line consists of anti-aging creams, eye creams, makeup remover and more.

Most of the products are suitable for every age, and for both men and women. Everything about the products screams French grandeur.

The Lancome symbol defines femininity and beauty, and it’s also because of the brand founder’s obsession with roses.

Product Ingredients

Even though the brand has been in the beauty industry for some time now, there is an issue with the formulation of the products primarily from the skincare range.

Some of the products contain synthetic fragrances, which can aggravate the skin.

Effectiveness

Lancome eye cream, for example, under-deliver and are a bit overpriced. The creams, however, do show results.

This is mostly due to synthetic ingredients added to help produce short-term healthy-looking skin rather than truly nourishing it.

Not A Cruelty-Free Brand

Unfortunately, this high-end brand is not a cruelty-free company.

They have tested their products in China, which requires any foreign cosmetic brands to test their products on animals before approving the brand to enter the Chinese market.

Though they have not used animals for years now, by selling their product in China, they can’t be considered a cruelty free company.

Lancome Advanced Genifique Youth Activating Serum

Both Lancôme and Shiseido have a well-known serum; one is called Lancôme Advanced Genifique Serum and the other is the Ultimune Power Infusing Serum.

Since both are popular, it makes sense that you’ll find it easy to get either of them. If you’re in the US, there are many retailers that stock them – a good example is Amazon.

Even though Shiseido is a Japanese brand, it’s very much available if you decide to go for it. Again, it’s cheaper and less expensive, compared to Lancôme, which costs more.

The Shiseido serum is available at 75ml (it’s possible to get it at other sizes) while Lancôme is available in a 3.38-ounce bottle.

Aside from being inexpensive, the Shiseido serum has managed to garner a lot of positive reviews, which shows that users are getting what they want from using it.

And:

On the other hand, Lancôme Advanced Genifique contains biotechnology-derived ingredients which make this serum amazingly powerful. It can improve your skin’s texture, elasticity, clarity, firmness, radiance, sagginess, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Lancôme Advanced Genifique will add moisture and makes your skin silky smooth to the touch. It’s a lightweight serum that can easily be absorbed by your skin. This product is best for people with oily, dry, or acne-prone skin.

Also, the Lancôme Advanced Genifique is a clear serum that will work on your dark spots. It has a self-loading dropper that will give you the right dose every time you have to apply the product.

Shiseido vs Lancôme: Final Thoughts

Both also company offer a good number of skincare products you can pick from depending on your needs and preferences.

The downside I see for both Shiseido and Lancôme is they are not vegan-friendly nor are they cruelty-free. If you’re looking for a cruelty-free brand, you may need to look elsewhere.

Moreover, the prices of both can be quite high so you have to be sure you can afford them. You also need to manage your expectations when purchasing.

Most people that buy these expensive products expect miracles, which is not going to happen. No one can be blamed for having moderate and reasonable expectations though.

  1. I don’t know how to pick a new color for Shiseido foundation since they took out all the
old ones and now have new ones. The color I used was perfect, now it is distinct.
