Living Proof vs Redken Dry Shampoos: Which Is Better?

Sharing is caring!

Living Proof and Redken are two of the most popular brands out there. Although they have a lot of products, I’ll be looking at their dry shampoos in this article.

This is the Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo and Redken Deep Dry Shampoo.

These shampoos are designed for cleaning the hair of odor, excess oil, and other bad particles. They’re very popular and have both been around for a while.

While they are similar, there are a few subtle differences you need to be aware of. I’ll be covering these in this article to help you decide which of them is better.

Living Proof vs Redken Dry Shampoos: Which Is Better?

In this section, I’ll base my review and comparison on the price of both, their size, ingredients, effectiveness and the benefits of using both of them.

Price

The price of both shampoos is identical. You can get the Redken 5.0 oz bottle for twenty dollars either at Hair.com or Ulta.

At the time of this writing, it’s not available on Amazon and if you go to the manufacturer’s website, you’ll be redirected to these retailers I just mentioned.

Living Proof is available for ordering directly on the manufacturer’s website, which is a good thing to have. Before I explain why that’s good, let’s talk about the price first.

The Living Proof Dry Shampoo is available for twenty-eight dollars, a few dollars above that of Redken.

This means that it is slightly more expensive since the Redken one is cheaper, even at 5 oz.

Having said that, purchasing Living Proof directly from the website minimizes any chance that you’ll buy fake or counterfeit which is plenty on the market.

I’ve seen a lot of complaints from buyers of Redken products for this reason. Most people ended up buying a counterfeit, which doesn’t work for them, thus leading to a waste of money and time.

Size

I like that both brands have a travel size for their shampoos.

The Redken version is a 1.3 oz bottle while that of Living Proof is 1.5 oz. This is good for just your own use and if you plan to travel with it.

However, the 5.0 version is better if you don’t plan to travel a lot. This is because it’ll take a while to exhaust it and you wouldn’t need to order again anytime soon.

Also, if you intend to share it with another person, then that and the biggest size of the shampoo is better.

Effectiveness

The fact is that the effectiveness of shampoo is a subjective thing. While some people have found both products to do what they promised to do, many others have complained of not seeing the results they wanted.

Some swear by Living Proof while others swear by Redken.

One of the benefits of Living Proof, according to some users, is that it can add a bit of shine to your hair without causing it to go white cast or look mattified.

Aside from smelling better, some users also find Living Proof to perform better.

One of the complaints about Redken is that its scent is overwhelming, fortunately, there is an unscented version of the shampoo in case you’re allergic to fragrance.

As for Living Proof, some users complained that it makes their hair feel greasier and heavier.

This is where Redken comes in as quite a few people find it to be great at cleansing the hair without making it feel heavy or gritty.

Aside from that, the shampoo is praised for not adding residue to hair but instead making it shiny and soft.

Ingredients

The two products have similar ingredients. However, Living Proof has cleaner and natural ingredients compared to Redken.

The fact that it’s cruelty-free and vegan means that Living Proof cares not only about you but also about the environment and other animals. Of the two, I would prefer Living Proof in terms of better ingredients.

Benefits of Using Both Shampoos (In Details)

Living Proof PHD Dry Shampoo

This shampoo is designed to cleanse your hair by removing sweat, oil, and odor from the hair.

According to the manufacturer, the Living Proof Dry Shampoo is free from paraben, silicone, formaldehyde, phthalate, and sulfates.

The shampoo, like other Living Proof products, is PETA certified, meaning that it’s cruelty-free.

Aside from that, it’s vegan, which means it’s going to be the choice of many more people than Redken which isn’t cruelty-free.

One thing worth noting is that it’s not easy to see a brand that is both cruelty-free and vegan at the same time. So, if you like to avoid brands because they’re not cruelty-free, then LP is great for you.

Finally, the shampoo is safe for color-treated and chemically-treated hair.

Redken Deep Clean Dry Shampoo

The Redken shampoo is designed for all hair types that need a good clean and refreshment. Unfortunately, Redken isn’t a cruelty-free brand. And that automatically means it’s not vegan.

So, if you like to choose cruelty-free or vegan brands when buying hair care products, then go for Living Proof.

Having said that, the Redken Shampoo is talc-, sulfate-, and silicone-free. The formula helps in absorbing oil and odor from hair for deep cleansing. It also contains rice and tapioca starch, which is responsible for removing greasy roots.

Conclusion

Both Living Proof and Redken brands are solid especially if you’re looking for shampoos for maintaining your hair.

Their dry shampoos are similar but the Living Proof Dry Shampoo is better in terms of scent, price, and effectiveness.
