Olay vs Dove Bar Soap (Differences & Similarities Reviewed)

Sharing is caring!

As more and more beauty bars hit the market, brands like Dove and Olay try to give you the best of them.

Olay and Dove both have beauty bars, which are formulated to moisturize, nourish, and maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier. When you look at most reviews online, you’ll soon discover that these products are popular.

Why?

Both bars are mild and moisturizing and can both be had for relatively small money. Unless you want to buy and use both, you have to choose between them at some point.

Fortunately, the two products have a few differing qualities. In this article, I go over a few of the differences between them so you can choose the appropriate one for your skin.

Olay vs Dove Bar Soap: Differences & Similarities

Moisturization

Out of the two, the Olay is more moisturizing. So, if you have dry skin and want one that’ll help hydrate and keep your body soft, you may want to go with Olay.

Keep in mind that your skin may become too oily if you have oily skin from using Olay. Dove should be moderate in that aspect.

Sensitive Skin

I think Dove is more suitable for sensitive skin, compared to Olay. While Olay’s talking point is moisture, Dove’s specifically formulated for sensitive skin.

The Dove Beauty bar is fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic. Olay, on the other hand, contains fragrance. If you’re easily irritated by fragrance, then you may want to avoid Olay.

If you’re like me and you like the fragrance to stay with you after taking your bath, then Olay is more suitable.

Price

While more expensive than regular soaps, these beauty bars are no more expensive than your regular skincare cream. You can also pick them up from your local store or various online merchant.

This means you can compare prices across all the platforms and go with the one with the better price.

Skin Type

This is another important factor to consider when choosing. Choosing the wrong soap for your skin may lead to unwanted skin conditions.

If you have sensitive skin, the Dove Beauty Bar is specially formulated for such skin. On the other hand, if you have dry skin, go with Olay as it’s the most suitable for that.

How to Choose the Proper Bar Soap

Bar soap is something you’ll be using daily, so you need to choose carefully. It doesn’t hurt to spend a little more time finding out about the brands you want to choose from.

Both Olay and Dove are good brands, but it’s more about the product than the brands themselves.

First, always, always go for skin-friendly soaps. There are loads of bad soaps out there that’ll hurt your skin.

You want to avoid those. How do you decide which one is good?

Look at the ingredients…most importantly the pH of the soap. If it is above 5.5, don’t buy it because it’ll be too harsh on the skin. Go for those that match 5.5 or are lower since that’s the natural pH balance that’ll suit your body.

Are Both Olay and Dove Bar Soaps?

Looking at the labeling of both products, it’s clear that they’re more than just bar soaps. Dove named its own beauty bar. Meaning that it’s not a soap, per se. Olay named its own version beauty bar too.

Sometimes you’ll see “the cleansing bar on the package. What these brands are trying to tell you is that their product is more suitable for sensitive skin and won’t dry your skin as normal soap would.

Verdict

Regular soaps are good to use. But when you use the wrong one, it might leave your skin rough and dry. A beauty bar, on the other hand, will not just cleanse your skin of dirt. It’ll also moisturize it, leaving it feeling fresh, smooth, and clean.

Dove vs Olay Body Wash: A Complete Review

Dove and Olay have a lot of products. However, we can’t buy all of them. So, I’m going to focus on their body wash in this article.

The rest of the article will compare body wash from both brands in a simplified way so you can quickly go with one.

The new Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash is proven to be free of any type of irritants such as scent as well as dyes. It is also extremely gentle when it comes to contact with the skin. Thus, making it very comfortable to be used.

One thing I like about the Dove Sensitive Skin Nourishing Body Wash is that it comes in different packages.

If you’re buying for your household, there is a bundle that contains 3 or 4 counts of the product. For individual buy, you can go with a single package.

Also, it’s unisex, so it’s not restricted to a particular gender. Not only is the product unscented but also cruelty-free too. So, if you’re looking for a vegan product, you may go with Dove.

This is where Dove shines – while Olay is not cruelty-free and therefore not vegan, Dove definitely is.

The Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash is also enriched with NutriumMoisture formula. This formula produces a decent amount of soapy foam that can be used to wash the whole body.

Therefore, reducing the amount you’ll need each time. Not only will you save time but also money as it’ll last longer.

On top of that, the Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash is also very smooth on the skin.

As for Olay:

Just like the Dove Body Wash, Olay Ultra Moisture Moisturizing Body Wash is gentle and very popular with users. It’s enriched with Shea Butter too, which comes with healing and anti-inflammatory properties.

The most benefit is that it’ll tone the skin but can also condition and soothe it. So, if you’re looking for a skin relaxer, you may want to consider this too.

It’s also creamy, which enables it to stay longer on the skin. Because of the mesh of multiple ingredients in the formula, the body wash can purify, rejuvenate, and nourish the skin.

According to the manufacturer, it can penetrate the skin for nourishment as well as moisturization. And it isn’t too expensive so a lot of people can buy and benefit from one.

I also like that it’s similar to Dove in that you can purchase for individual use or for your household. The downside I see to this is that it’s not cruelty-free and is scented, unlike Dove which is free from both.

Dove vs Olay: Possible Side Effects

Apart from the smoothing and hydrating effects of Dove and Olay, there are absolutely no bad side effects after using both of these two products.

The only effects that can be observed once you have been using the Dove and Olay body wash after about 5 days are that your skin would be smooth and clean with absolutely no residue at all.

There are some brands of body wash that I know will leave your skin to be sticky after using it for some days but for these two brands, it’s an exception.
