Oribe vs Pureology: Which Brand Is Better?

Sharing is caring!

Oribe and Pureology are two of the most popular brands of shampoo and conditioner for all hair types.

They are both luxury and premium brands with a big list of products to choose from.

Whether you’re suffering from dry hair, hair thinning, or just looking to change color, you’ll likely find a matching product.

The interesting thing about the two brands is their holistic approach to hair care.

They source and use natural/organic ingredients in their products, both are cruelty-free/vegan, and are two of the most reputable brands in the industry.

Pureology and Oribe are both expensive, so they aren’t for the faint of heart. If you’re not afraid to splurge, then you’re going to love what they are both offering.

Speaking of their offering, how do you decide which brand is better?

Well, that’s what this article is all about. We’re about to compare both brands, look at their shampoos, and help you choose the best brand for your hair.

But before that, here are some pointers to pay attention to when choosing hair products.

Oribe vs Pureology: Shampoo Comparisons

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner

The Hydrate Shampoo is one of the most popular out there for treating dry hair.

According to Pureology, this shampoo is infused with jojoba oil, which helps hydrate the hair as well as green tea, which helps maintain hair health.

Sage is added to ensure hair follicles are strong and stimulated.

The shampoo contains lavender, bergamot, and patchouli while the condition is packed with invigorating ingredients like mint and menthol.

Mint and Menthol will leave the hair feeling relieved, invigorating, and tingling.

The shampoo, according to Pureology, is suitable for all hair types suffering from dryness. It’s designed to add moisture and softness, while also amplifying hair shine.

There is no sulfate, gluten, or paraben in the formula, as usual. And you can be sure the shampoo/conditioner combo is a product of vegan/cruelty-free ingredients.

Verdict

The shampoo and conditioner are quite easy to use. Like your normal shampoo, wet your hair and ad a mid-sized amount to the hair.

Massage until it reaches the scalp and then you rinse it. You can stop with one wash or do another if you need to remove lots of product residue.

You can use the conditioner afterward in the same manner.

Oribe Shampoo For Moisture & Control

Just like the Hydrate Shampoo, Oribe Shampoo for Moisture and Control is designed to replenish hair moisture while also cleansing the hair.

However, it’s specifically designed for curly, coily, and thick hair. So, if you have fine, straight hair, you may want to try the Pureology Hydrate Shampoo instead.

The shampoo is enriched with the Oribe Signature Complex, which the brand claims will help reduce oxidative stress and protect the hair from damages caused by environmental sources.

The shampoo can also work on the cuticle by making it stronger, thicker, and less prone to damage.

Thanks to the addition of Amino Acid Complex, the shampoo can seep into the hair and scalp, adding moisture and required nutrients to keep hair healthy.

Other notable ingredients include Amber Extract and Sunflower Extract, which help to condition the hair and protect it against drying out from being exposed to the elements.

Is Oribe Better than Pureology?

Differences:

Uses

One of the differences between the two shampoos is that you can use the Pureology Shampoo on dry, color-treated hair.

However, the Oribe Shampoo is mainly designed for coily, curly, and thick hair.

Oribe is better used for medium to thick hair. Pureology is recommended for all hair types.

Prices

However, when I checked the prices on sites like Amazon, I found Oribe is much more expensive than Pureology. At the time of this writing, the Oribe Shampoo and Conditioner combo cost almost 100 dollars.

However, Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner is only slightly above 60 dollars, which makes me think the Oribe will be pricier on other platforms. Just might not be as much.

Generally, the prices of both Pureology and Oribe shampoos are similar, depending on where you’re buying from.

So, it’s important to check prices if you’re looking to save.

Ingredients

The ingredients are very closely related too, so there isn’t much there. I’ve included the main ingredients and a full list above, so you can check each one.

It’s important to note that both contain silicone, so don’t be surprised if you see dimethicone and the likes in the list of ingredients.

I don’t think silicone is bad though, especially if it’s water-based since you can easily wash it out.

Also, if you look at the list of ingredients, you’ll see that the Oribe Shampoo has lesser ingredients overall.

This is better because, the lesser the ingredients, the lower the chances of being allergic to any of the ingredients. So, if you have sensitive hair, this is something you need to pay attention to.

They are equally both safe for color-treated hair but the Oribe is dermatologist-recommended. I don’t know if the Pureology shampoo is also dermatologist tested.

Similarities:

One thing I like about both Oribe and Pureology is their stand on animal testing and the use of natural ingredients in their products.

Both Oribe and Olaplex are cruelty-free. They have both confirmed that they don’t use animal-derived ingredients in their products.

Neither do any of the two brands test ingredients on animals. For vegans, animal lovers, and cruelty-free’ers, this is good news.

You can splurge on either brand without remorse. There are often a lot of brands out there that test on animals or are not cruelty-free, so having a luxury brand like Oribe and Pureology is a good thing to have.

Oribe or Pureology: Which Should You Choose?

Another thing I want to mention is that most, if not all of Pureology and Oribe products, are free from sulfate-, paraben-, and gluten-free.

During my research writing different articles on hair care brands, I’ve found that a huge number of people prefer to go for organic and natural brands.

Most times, you only get those brands from Asia such as those from Korea and India. These brands use mostly plant-based ingredients in their products, which is why they’re always popular.

Therefore, seeing a brand like Oribe and Pureology at the forefront of the movement for natural and organic hair care is an excellent improvement.
