Pureology vs. Aveda Shampoos: Which Is Better?

Sharing is caring!

It’s no doubt that Aveda and Pureology are two of the biggest hair care brands out there.

They both have the technological prowess, expertise, and experience to make products that will satisfy a wide range of customers with different hair types.

Whether you’re looking to add volume to your hair, add strength to hair, protect your hair color, or just general hair maintenance, you’ll find a suitable product from either brand.

And while they are both effective, it’s not always possible to purchase two brands at the same time.

So, you always have to choose one.

Now that you know they are both good, which one should you purchase? In this article, I’ll be comparing some of Aveda and Pureology’s products.

After comparing the features, pros, cons, prices, packages, etc., you should be able to decide which brand is more suitable for you and your hair.

Pureology vs. Aveda Hydration Shampoos

When it comes to comparing both brands, there are certainly a lot of products to consider. However, we can make do with a few of them so that you can see how they fare generally.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo vs Aveda Nutriplenish Shampoo

Aveda Nutriplenish Shampoo

According to Aveda, the Nutriplensh is designed for replenishing moisture lost on dry hair.

Aside from hydrating, the shampoo also comes with nutrient-boosting ingredients that keep the hair healthy while also cleansing the hair of dirt and product residue.

The shampoo is free from gluten, sulfate, silicones, and the usual charade of harsh chemicals.

Furthermore, the shampoo is supposed to be lightweight so it won’t weigh down your hair.

If true, this can make it a good option for those with coarse and thick hair and an excellent choice for those with fine hair.

It is vegan and packed with organic ingredients like pomegranate oil, oat extract, mango butter, and coconut oil, and is suitable for all hair types.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo

This shampoo is supposed to moisturize, hydrate, and soften thick, dry hair.

It is safe for color-treated hair. The shampoo is also available in 1.7 oz travel size as well as 33.8 oz family size.

Aside from adding moisture, you can use the Pureology shampoo to maintain and care for hair color.

Like the Aveda Nutriplenish, this hydrating shampoo also features plant-based ingredients like bergamot, lavender, rose extract, green tea, patchouli, and sage.

It is also cruelty-free which is great news for all. However, it is only suitable for medium to thick hair, unlike Aveda which can be used on all hair types.

Comparison

The two shampoos have similar functions, to replenish dry hair. However, there are a few differences to help you decide on the better one.

The Pureology Hydrate is creamy and thick and more suitable for medium to dry hair. Aveda, on the other hand, is more liquid-y in texture and can be used on all hair types.

They are both cruelty-free and suitable for color-treated hair.

In addition to hydration, the Aveda Nutriplenish also claims to cleanse the hair so if your hair is full of product residue, you may want to consider it.

In terms of price, Pureology Hydrate Shampoo is slightly less expensive.

You can get the 9 oz bottle for 33 dollars while the 8.5 oz of Aveda Nutriplenish is available for 35 dollars.

I wouldn’t consider the difference big but if you’re looking to save, no matter how little, then Pureology may be more suitable for you.

Pureology vs. Aveda Volumizing Shampoos

Pureology Pure Volume vs Aveda Pure Abundance

Aveda Pure Abundance

The Aveda Pure Abundance is a volumizing shampoo that is supposed to add body and volume thanks to its kaolin clay and acacia gum content.

It comes in 8.5 or 33.8 oz, depending on your needs.

If you have limp or weak hair, the acacia gum can help add body to the hair, making it look thicker and abundant.

Kaolin clay is known for cleansing the scalp, smoothening damaged hair as well as boosting oil production so your hair is soft and hydrated.

Like other Aveda products, it is cruelty-free, vegan, and packed with natural ingredients.

Pureology Pure Volume

The Pureology Pure Volume shampoo is a lightweight volumizer that can help flat, fine hair to be thicker.

It comes with 100% vegan ingredients, free from sulfates and gluten and made with body-loving ingredients like wild rose, wheat protein, and eucalyptus leaf extract.

Eucalyptus leaf can help stimulate the follicles for faster hair growth while wheat protein helps more body.

Aside from adding body without weighing down the hair, this shampoo claims to also clarify the hair from buildups and other dirt.

You can choose from 1.7 oz, 9 oz, and 33.8 oz. The shampoo also has cedarwood for a unique scent.

Comparison

Here, there is a slight but almost unnoticeable price difference between the two volumizing shampoos.

The Pureology Pure Volume will set you back 33 dollars for the 9 fl oz bottle while you’ll only spend 27 dollars for Aveda Pure Abundance.

The texture of both is also similar, being light, but they have different scents.

Aveda Pure Abundance has a peppermint scent while Pureology has a eucalyptus scent.

Also, while the Aveda shampoo is more for normal hair types, the Pureology Pure Volume is suitable for flat hair.

Finally, the Pureology Pure Volume is more for dealing with thinning and flat hair.

Aveda also does a good job but maybe better used as a cleansing shampoo (which of course will prove beneficial for hair volume).
