What Happened to No-Ad Sunscreen? Discontinued?

Sharing is caring!

Has No-Ad Sunscreen been discontinued by the manufacturer?

Yes, No Ad Sunscreen has been discontinued by the manufacturer. There is no explanation as to why they made the decision (typical of skincare brands) even though a lot of people love this sunscreen. If you’re here looking for the No Ad Sunscreen, sorry to break it to you but your favorite sunscreen is gone.

Read more about it on the New York Times Website.

In the following paragraphs, I explain a bit more about this sunscreen and a viable alternative you can choose.

So, keep reading!

Who Makes No Ad Sunscreen?

The maker of the No Ad Sunscreen is SolSkyn Personal Care, a company that is based in the united states.

The official website of the brand is at its official website.

Aside from the official website, you can get the no-ad sunscreen from Amazon, Kroger, eBay, as well as other big box stores.

At the time of writing this article, you can’t order directly from the brand’s website.

This is because the product has been discontinued. And while you can still get it from online stores, it may not last long.

Once the stock they have has finished, I don’t think they’ll be able to have another inventory anytime soon except if the brand brings back the product.

Is No Ad Sunscreen Still in Business?

No, the No Ad Sunscreen brand is no longer operating. That’s why the product is no longer being produced.

So, if you’re wondering why they are scarce in the market and why you can’t get your hands on this sunscreen, then know that the brand doesn’t make the product again.

At least, that’s what my research leads me to believe before writing this article.

Where to Buy No-Ad Sunscreen

As I mentioned somewhere else in this article, there are plenty of places you can check for No-Ad Sunscreen.

Now that it’s been discontinued, only a few stores will have it in stock.

So, if you’re reading this, you may want to check them quickly before they sell out. The most popular places you can get the sunscreen are the following:

  • Amazon
  • eBay
  • Poshmark
  • Walmart
  • Walgreens
  • Kroger
  • Safeway
  • Instacart
  • And many others…

Why Is No Ad Sunscreen So Expensive?

Sunscreens are supposed to be inexpensive right? They contain basic ingredients and in low-cost packages.

Well, there are lots of reasons a particular sunscreen may be expensive. We’ll explore some of these here.

Most people complain that sunscreens are expensive. Like any other sunscreen, No Ad Sunscreen is no different.

While expensive is relative, there are a couple of reasons this sunscreen may be expensive. Let’s explore some of them:

Effectiveness

Brands are fond of adding a big price to a product that they know is effective and that many users can’t do without. A good example is Olaplex.

It has become almost a staple in the haircare industry. As a result, the brand is able to charge an above-market rate for the product.

The same thing applies to No-Ad Sunscreen. It’s effective and a lot of people like the product.

So, the brand knows it will sell regardless of the price, thanks to its marketing and the popularity of the product over the years.

No Regulation

Why not?

Brands can often price their product below or above the going rate in the market.

As long as the product continues selling and they are making huge profits.

In some markets, the government can have a price ceiling for certain products and other market regulations.

I don’t think anything like that exists in the sunscreen market so brands have a little bit of wiggle room and freedom.

Ingredients

I know you’ll expect this to be the first thing on the list. Sometimes, the ingredients used in a sunscreen product may be expensive to incur.

While anyone can make their equivalent sunscreen at home, making a decent one and packaging it for the masses is much more complicated.

The mixture of the ingredients and the right proportions must be gotten right, consistently.

Then the marketing behind promoting the product.

Marketing

Not always important, especially if the brand has other products.

Sometimes, brands spend more marketing the product than what they allocate to making the product.

So, this can also count toward the final price of the product.

Verdict

Even with all of these, sunscreens should still be cheap and affordable for everyone.

Fortunately, just as there are expensive sunscreens, you can find plenty more that are inexpensive.

So, if you don’t like one or it’s too expensive for you, then look for alternatives and have rest of mind.

Is No Ad Sunscreen Safe?

Yes, No Ad Sunscreen is safe for use on your face and other parts of your body.

At the time of writing this review, then there wasn’t any report against the brand for being safe.

In fact, it’s the favorite of so many people, which is why most people can’t believe it has truly been discontinued.

Most of the reviews I can find are positive ravings of the product, with many users claiming it’s their favorite sunscreen.

The sunscreen doesn’t contain the usual suspects like paraben, gluten, etc.

The ingredients in the sunscreen are also clean. However, it was given a safety score of 7 out of 10 (10 being the worst) by EWG.

Among the things it flags include oxybenzone, which can disrupt hormones, inhalation risk, and possible breakdown of the product.

Fortunately, these are things almost every sunscreen will have, depending on how natural the ingredients are.

Sunscreen Comparable to No Ad

If you’re looking for a No Ad Sunscreen alternative, then this section is for you.

I’ll be sharing some substitutes I was able to find on the interwebs and what I’ll look into getting myself in place of No Ad:

Supergoop’s Play Everyday Lotion SPF50:

  • has excellent verifications (it wasn’t on that report that circulated about falsified SPFs)
  • has a *slight* scent to my nose BUT I’m a person who really doesn’t like scent & I’m okay with this one?? (bodies are complicated)
  • rubs in really nicely, almost like a body lotion
  • I have the giant one, which makes it extremely cost-effective in the price/oz, but Supergoop runs a lot more expensive than NO-AD. That said, Supergoop does offer it in a lot of sizes, you could also trial it for $10 (1 oz) and see if you like it!
  • They sell a 2.4oz / 71 mL for $22

Here is a review of it
