Is Innisfree Cruelty-free and Vegan in 2022?

Sharing is caring!

No, it’s not a cruelty-free or vegan company.

According to its website, Innisfree is owned by AmorePacific, a parent company that is not even committed to animal welfare, and there is no mention of the company’s official animal testing policy.

In fact, Innisfree is not a cruelty-free company. On occasion, when it is necessary by law, Innisfree allows its products to be tested on animals.

What is Innisfree?

As a well-known Korean skincare and cosmetics company, Innisfree is typically touted as being Vegan and cruelty-free, but is this really the case? The short answer is no, as mentioned above.

The problem with China

Innisfree goods, on the other hand, are available in the Chinese mainland, which is in direct contradiction to the last bullet point above.

Although it is commendable that Innisfree has stopped in-house animal testing, the company acknowledges that by choosing to sell its goods in China, animal testing is inescapable.

This is correct. The majority of imported cosmetics marketed in mainland China are obliged to be tested on animals under Chinese legislation. In reality, in China, pre-market animal testing is needed for all special-use imported items, and non-routine post-market animal testing may also be carried out in response to consumer complaints in certain circumstances.

Even though cosmetics have already been confirmed to be safe using non-animal testing methods, China’s rules require that all imported cosmetics be re-tested in their own laboratories using animal test subjects. This is in violation of international treaties.

Necessary elements for being a Cruelty-Free company

To be cruelty-free, brands must:

  • Animals are not permitted to be used in the testing of finished items or components.
  • They must take steps to guarantee that their vendors do not undertake animal testing on their products.
  • In mainland China and other nations where animal testing is still required by law, they are not allowed to market their goods.
  • They are prohibited from contracting with third parties to test their products on animals.

Is Innisfree a vegan company?

We have seen what can be done. Because Innisfree is not a Cruelty-Free firm but is it at the very least vegan in its practices?

The answer is a resounding nay. It can’t be 100% vegan.

Because Innisfree’s products are tested on animals in China, we do not consider anything sold or made by Innisfree to be cruelty-free. As a result, we do not consider anything sold or manufactured by Innisfree to be vegan.

Innisfree makes the following claim: Some of their items are vegan; nonetheless, the brand as a whole is not cruelty-free and should be avoided if you are opposed to animal exploitation.
