Keranique vs Rogaine: Major Differences

The main difference is that Rogaine can be used by both men and women to treat hair loss while Keranique is a female-centric system.

If you’re looking for an affordable option, Rogaine offers a good system for a budget-friendly price.

While Rogaine helps you treat and combat hair loss, Keranique is more focused on hair regrowth and the appearance of the hair.

The Rogaine Hair Growth System

Rogaine is a great alternative to Keranique, especially for those who don’t have a lot of time in their hands to commit to a regular program.

If you’re looking for growing your existing hair or suffering from permanent hair loss, you can try out this system.

According to Rogaine, the product works on your hair follicles by strengthening them and revitalizing your hair strands.

This, it is claimed, should serve as an impetus to regrowing your lost hair.

Another plus point for Rogaine is that the product is simple and easy to use. Compared to other products that might stick to your hair, Rogaine isn’t like that.

Ingredients of the Rogaine Hair Growth System

The first ingredient in the product is Minoxidil.

This solution is used to help hair growth, especially in male baldness. Many products that come with this ingredient are used for treating hair loss and have been known to be effective.

While there may be side effects, you can be sure that it can work for your hair growth. Also, how long it takes or when it starts to work isn’t particularly clear.

But it has been proven to have a positive effect on hair growth.

Using the Rogaine Hair Growth System

You can purchase the system without a specific prescription.

For men, the concentration of Minoxidil is 5% while it’s 2% for women. According to some studies and claims from the manufacturer, you should expect to see results after 5 months and above.

Therefore, using Rogaine as a hair loss remedy requires patience. And a bit more patient. If you’re looking for a quick fix, you’ll be greatly disappointed.

You Need Consistency

It’s not just about using Rogaine and expecting results.

You also have to use it religiously. If you can stick with it for at least 6 months, you should start seeing, like others, some improvement in your hair growth.

This isn’t to say you’re guaranteed full hair growth within that time. Seeing that level of results is going to take a longer time and you’ll need to keep using it for more than the 5 or 6 months quoted above.

Finally:

Note that Rogaine is an FDA-approved hair regrowth treatment, which comes in different specifications for different uses. It’s clinically tested with data backing its effectiveness and is popular with many users.

Keranique Hair Regrowth System

The Keranique Hair Regrowth System is a family hair regrowth system that’s very easy to use. It includes a Shampoo & Conditioner, Keranique Hair Regrowth Treatment and a special Styling Product offering a complete growth system for your thinning hair.

The system is FDA-approved, which means it’s trusted and safe for you to use. I’ve reviewed quite a few hair growth systems that are not even approved by the FDA.

Price of the System

Since the Keranique Hair Regrowth System is available in a lot of outlets, it’s normal that the price will be a little different on each platform.

However, you shouldn’t pay more than $30 as most carry it for less than that. Also, there are a few packages to choose from. The most popular is the 30 days supply, which is what I’m referring to here.

There is also a 60-day supply, which might be more expensive. The most expensive is the 90-day supply version.

I’d advise you to go with the 30 days supply especially if you haven’t tried this in the past.

While it’s expected that it would work for you, it’s better not to have too much on your hands in the event it doesn’t work the way you like or it isn’t effective.

What It Does

The treatment is targeted at people who are experiencing thinning hair or dry hair. The system consists of a shampoo, conditioner, and treatment spray.

It’s formulated for women with dry to normal hair. The shampoo features Keratin Amino Complex, which is protein-filled with amino acids.

These acids will help build hair growth while also facilitating fuller hair and a healthy scalp. It’s designed to be used by adults and not meant for children.

Ingredients

The treatment is free from sulfate, phthalate, and paraben.

The other ingredients include 2% Minoxidil, Alcohol 60% v/v, Propylene Glycol 20% v/v, Purified Water.

How to Use

This hair growth system should be applied specifically to the area where you are experiencing hair loss or thinning. You don’t need to apply it to the whole hair or those parts where your hair is still full.

For the best result, you need to apply it twice a day, in the morning and at night, directly to your scalp.

When applying, use the spray to apply to the scalp and move the liquid evenly through your hair and make sure you wash your hands after use.

When used regularly and to instruction, the system can help stimulate hair follicles to produce hair that’s not only thick but also healthy-looking.

This should happen in your normal hair growth cycle, which is why it’s important to be consistent when using. Finally, you should expect your hair to grow fuller and the thinning stop in problem areas once you follow instructions properly.

Keranique vs Rogaine – Conclusion

Between the two brands, Rogaine is a suitable option for those looking for a temporary solution. However, when it comes to the quality that both brands can offer you, you can’t go wrong with any of them.

If you’re looking for a quick and fast treatment for your hair, Rogaine will not give you that. It works slowly and you’ll have to use it consistently before you can see good improvement in your hair growth.

  1. Is Keranique dematologist approved? Rogaine has that recommendation. My dermatologist recommended the 2% Rogaine since my thick hair has some thinning by the crown area but I am still reading further which choice to use. And side effects. For now I am trying scalp treatments and sulfate free shampoos . I am 65 yrs. old. Thank you .

    1. 1. Yes, Keranique is Dermatologist approved. It’s Recommended by Dr. Batra, M.Sc., M.P.H, and M.D. Board Certified Dermatologist.
      2. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to come across a hair treatment that doesn’t have side effects. People react differently since our bodies are different. Both Keranique and Rogaine have side effects.
      3. If you’re yet to buy, Rogaine offers a more affordable option. Also, it can help combat hair loss and can be used for its treatment. Use Keranique if you’re looking to regrow your hair. Finally, if you’re experiencing thinning hair, Rogaine can help you stop it, so your dermatologist is on point with their recommendation. I’ll advise you to follow their advice.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  2. Can you switch immediately from Rogaine to Keranique without losing any benefit or damaging hair?

    1. Hi Amanda,

There shouldn’t be any as Keranique is specially designed for females.

      1. Hi Joyce,

I’ve answered the question above. Let me know if you have further questions. And thanks for reading.

        1. I am taking a chemo pilll for lung cancer ,can I use either one of these products .Keranique or Rogain .what do you think would be best for me.i am 85.

          1. Hi Connie,

Unfortunately, I’ll not be able to answer your question as I’m not familiar with your situation. I think your doc or chemotherapist should be able to recommend the most appropriate one for you.

    1. Hi Margie,

It goes like this: research studies (like this and this) show that 5% is more effective for men and 2% for women.

And while 5% is more effective, it has the potential to trigger greater side effects. Also, it may be harsher than 2%. As a woman, go for the 2%. But if you think you can take the harshness, possible side effects, or just want to try out the 5% then go for it.

        1. Hi Luki, good question.

I’m not sure which one you’re referring to, Rogaine or Keranique. Going by the question/answer above, I’m assuming it’s Keranique, so here we go:

The common ones are scalp irritation or redness. Others include increased hair loss (and maybe a suffering bank balance?)

        1. Hi Luki, I won’t be able to answer the question now as I haven’t come across any information on that.

However, one thing to note about these treatments is that they can be slow. That’s why some people recommend using it for 6 months before expecting results and sometimes up to a year before seeing a full-on recovery. Also, the longer you use it, the thicker your hair can become (all things being equal).

          1. I dont understand the benefit of keranique over rogaine. They both contain minoxidil and rogaine is cheaper.
If i have a good cleanser/ conditioner (step 1) and a good styling product (step 3) , rogaine should be enough.

    1. According to the manufacturer, Keranique can be used for women of all ages. And according to this source, Rogaine is better used for women under 40 years because the effectiveness reduces as the age climbs above that.

  3. Which product is safer, less costly and more effective for 74 yr old with decent, but, as expected, thinning hair!

    1. Hi Julieann,

As for price, Rogaine is cheaper and also effective according to other the experience of other users. However, as stated in the article, Keranique is more female-friendly. Even though that doesn’t mean it’s safer than Rogaine; just that you might get slightly better results.

Also, Mixodil is FDA-approved for women (which is the active ingredient in Rogaine). In fact, it’s the only topical medication with such approval. In terms of thinning hair, both products can help.

I hope that, with the comparison above, you should be able to decide which one to go for.

But let me know if you have any other questions!

  4. Hi,
I have been using rogaine for about a year. And I did see some improvement. However recently my hair seems much, much thinner pretty much all around, not in any particular area. I also am in menopause. If I switched from Rogaine to Keranique now do you think I will experience hair loss that is typical when someone first starts using it? Thank you.
    Michelle
