Cerave vs Aveeno: Which Brand Is BEST for Your Skin?

Sharing is caring!

After publishing substantial content on a lot of moisturizers, I see people searching for information on Cerave vs Aveeno. I’ve found that people in your shoes don’t find it easy to choose between the two brands because of their similarity and strong product line. Fortunately, there are a few things that set them apart.

Therefore, choosing one of them above the other depends on what you’re looking for. Some of the similar products they offer include body wash, face moisturizer, night cream, cleanser, face wash, adult and baby lotion.

In addition to that, they offer similar products for treating eczema, slowing the signs of aging, soothing sensitive skin, fighting eczema, preventing dryness, and protecting the skin from the sun.

As you can see, before you can truly choose the right one, you have to have a reason for it. If you’re looking to get a body wash, for example, you could look at the ingredients, price, and efficacy of each brand.

Then base your decision on that. If you find that Aveeno body wash is cheaper or has fewer ingredients or is more effective, you’ll certainly want to go for that.

The same principle applies to any of Aveeno or Cerave products that you might want to choose. Now:

It’s important to understand that not all of their products can be featured in a single article. The popular ones like Aveeno/Cerave’s moisturizer, body wash, etc., will be discussed.

Some of the content should be helpful enough to help you decide on others or ask specific questions in the comment section and we’ll make necessary updates.

The most important is how good the product works and if it’s safe for your skin. In this article, you’ll learn about some of the most important products from these brands and what they can do for you.

Cerave vs Aveeno: A Quick Comparison

If you’re trying to decide between Cerave and Aveeno, here is a set of guidelines that can help you. Because this article doesn’t cover all of the products from both brands, you may be wondering about what could serve as a guide when choosing any of their product. If that’s the case, you should read this.

The main difference between Aveeno and CeraVe is that Aveeno is gentle while Cerave is a heavy-duty moisturizer. Also, Aveeno products are free from parabens while CeraVe uses parabens.

If you’re allergic to parabens, you might want to opt for Aveeno. Generally, parabens are not bad, but if you were looking for paraben-free products, Aveeno is your best choice.

But if you have dry or problematic skin, Cerave will do better compared to Aveeno which might only be suitable for oily skin.

Also, If you’re living in a hot climate, Aveeno moisturizers would be a better choice than Cerave as they are SPF resistant. This means that they protect your skin from the sun’s broad spectrum of harmful UV rays.

CeraVe Moisturizing Body Lotion

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion

CeraVe’s Moisturizing Body Lotion is the Lotion We’ve Been Waiting For

No matter where you are from, whether you live in a humid area or a dry one, keeping your skin moisturized throughout the day is one of the key steps of a good skincare routine. But for those of us with sensitive skin, it is extremely difficult to look for the perfect product.

For years, I struggled to look for a lotion that worked for me.

Lotions, body creams, and the like often irritated my skin, causing breakouts. Or didn’t provide enough moisture and ended up leaving my skin rough and dry.

Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, were far too greasy for my skin, leaving me feeling sticky and gross.

This is why CeraVe Moisturizing Body Lotion is such a miracle for my skin.

It is an excellent moisturizer—it is made with hyaluronic acid and contains 3 essential ceramides (ceramides 1, 3, and 6-II), which are naturally found in our skin cells.

These work to protect the skin’s natural barrier by helping retain our skin’s moisture and preventing germs from entering the body.

It keeps the skin hydrated for the whole day using CeraVe’s MultiVesicular Emulsion (MVE) technology, which ensures the slow, continual release of moisturizing ingredients on the skin.

It is lightweight and oil-free, keeping the skin supple and hydrated without leaving you feeling sticky and gross. It is particularly formulated for those of us with sensitive skin because it is non-comedogenic and gentle on the skin.

This means it won’t clog your pores and cause breakouts. It also does not have any unnecessary fragrances that might irritate your skin.

Verdict

I used to skip putting lotion on my skin altogether because I couldn’t find a product for me, but CeraVe Moisturing Body Lotion transformed my skin in ways I never thought a moisturizing lotion could.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion

Cerave vs Aveeno
The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion is a moisturizer that contains oats.

It is said to be beneficial for the skin, providing a number of health benefits. Some of these benefits include improving the appearance of dry skin, soothing itchy skin, and helping to protect against environmental factors that can damage the skin.

In addition, Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion is claimed to be fragrance-free, which may make it a good choice for people with sensitive skin.

Important User Reviews

Despite the many purported benefits of Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion, some people claim that it has caused them health problems.

Specifically, some users have reported experiencing adverse effects such as skin irritation, hives, and even anaphylactic shock.

It is important to note that not everyone who uses Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion will experience these side effects and that the majority of users don’t have any problems with it.

However, if you are concerned about potential health risks, it is always a good idea to speak with your doctor before using any new product.

Verdict

Overall, Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion is a fairly safe product, and most people who use it do not experience any negative side effects.

However, if you are especially sensitive to fragrance or other ingredients in the lotion, it may be best to avoid it. Additionally, if you have any health concerns, please consult your doctor before using this or any other skincare product.

Other Aveeno Products:

Cerave vs Aveeno: Ease of Use

The Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Lotion is thick but not too thick. It’s also creamy, which means it might not spread smoothly.

The advantage though is that a few drops should be enough every time you need to apply it. This should make it last longer. Cerave, on the other hand, is lighter and spreads easily.

Because of that, it’s possible your body is going to absorb it faster. Moreover, you don’t get to do more work when applying it to your body. So, if you’re looking for consistency, go for Cerave.

Skin Sensitivity

Skin sensitivity is an important metric that all brand concerns themselves with. That’s why you’ll see skin products formulated for specific skin types. If you have sensitive skin, then you’ll be worried about what product to choose.

Between CeraVe and Aveeno, which is better in this aspect? It seems to be Aveeno. Because there are complaints about harsh reactions from users after applying the CeraVe lotion.

Aveeno’s daily moisturizing lotion is advertised as being good for sensitive skin. However, the report from users is mixed. While some people find it suits their skin, some people claimed it wasn’t for them as it didn’t do well for their skin.

Which One Is Cruelty-free?

CeraVe and Aveeno, as big as the companies are, aren’t cruelty-free. Well, how big a company is doesn’t affect its animal testing policies. Many companies test on animals and this has been a continuous practice.

Don’t be surprised your favorite brands fall under this umbrella. I don’t like them to do this but it’s a necessary evil as the proponents have posited.

If you’re vegan though, you’ll be able to find a lot of cruelty-free brands that offer a quality range. They just might not be as good as CeraVe or Aveeno.

Final Words on Cerave vs Aveeno

In terms of simplicity and useful ingredients list, Cerave is a good option. You should go with them if you’re looking for a basic moisturizer.

However, Cerave moisturizers may be more expensive, compared to those of Aveeno, which is ridiculously cheap for what you get. Aveeno’s moisturizer is also very popular and comes with simple ingredients that smoothen out the skin and keep it supple.

    1. Hi Whitney,

      Thank you for the comment.

Here is a quote of the policy statement from the site:

We want you to feel good about how we make AVEENO® products. You can only do that if you have the facts. The fact is, AVEENO® doesn’t conduct animal testing of our cosmetic products anywhere in the world, except in the rare situation where governments or laws require it. At AVEENO®, we won’t ever compromise on the quality or safety of our products or stop seeking alternatives to animal testing.

The bolded is where the problem is.

Usually, this means that if they’re mandated to conduct an animal test of their product (China being the main culprit here), they’d consent. So, before they sell their wares in Mainland China, for example, the law requires that they pay the government a certain amount to be used for animal testing.

It’s only after this is done they’ll be able to sell their products there. This is what is referred to as financing animal testing. While they’re not directly doing it, their resources go into financing those who do it on their behalf. As long as they do this, then they conduct animal testing albeit, indirectly. This is exactly why they’re not among the cruelty-free brands.

If they want to be a cruelty-free brand, they need to stop selling in Mainland China (and any country that requires them to finance animal test), in addition to not doing the testing on their own.

      1. So Aveeno is saying they don’t test on animals EXCEPT if the country’s government requires it (rare). Regardless, Aveeno may not test on animals but it’s parent company Johnson & Johnson definitely does.
